I Tried CBD, Then HHC, Then THCA – Here's What Actually Worked

Three legal options. Three completely different experiences. Here's what nobody tells you.

When cannabis laws started changing across Europe, I thought: "Finally. I can buy something to help me unwind after work."

Then I looked online.

CBD. HHC. THCA. Delta-9. CBG.

I just wanted to relax. Now I needed a chemistry degree.

So I did what anyone would do: I tried them all.

Here's what I learned after spending €200+ figuring this out.

CBD: The Disappointment

Everyone said start with CBD. "It's legal everywhere. Very relaxing."

I bought premium CBD oil. 15% concentration. €80.

First night: 10mg before bed. Waited for relaxation.

Nothing.

Week two: Increased to 25mg. Still nothing.

Week three: Tried CBD flower instead. Smoked it.

Pleasant taste. Zero effect.

Then I read more carefully: "Non-psychoactive."

Oh.

CBD isn't a milder version of cannabis. It's something completely different. No high at all.

For some people, that's perfect. My friend uses it for anxiety and loves it.

But I wanted something I could actually feel.

€100+ spent. Lesson learned.

HHC: It Works, But Different

I kept seeing HHC everywhere. "Legal high. Alternative to THC."

Research showed it's a psychoactive cannabinoid, legal in most EU countries, available from reputable Czech and Austrian suppliers.

I ordered an HHC vape from a Czech company. Professional website. Lab reports. Arrived discreetly.

First test: Evening after work. Few hits.

10 minutes later: It worked.

Actually psychoactive. Relaxing. Euphoric.

I could finally feel something.

But... it felt different from what I remembered cannabis being like back in the day.

Not bad. Just different.

More energetic? Clearer? Hard to describe.

Some of my friends actually prefer HHC to traditional THC. They say it's cleaner, more functional.

And honestly? I get it. HHC works well.

But I kept thinking: "What if I just want... regular cannabis? The traditional experience? Not an alternative – the real thing?"

That's when I found THCA.

THCA: The Real Thing

At first, I thought THCA was just another alternative like HHC.

Then I learned what it actually is.

THCA isn't an alternative to THC.

THCA literally IS THC – just in its raw, unheated form.

Here's the science (simplified):

Fresh cannabis plants contain mostly THCA (15-25%) and minimal Delta-9 THC (2-5%).

When you heat it – smoke it, vape it, bake it – THCA converts to THC.

This happens with ALL cannabis. Always has. Every joint anyone has ever smoked works this way.

THCA is legal because EU hemp law regulates Delta-9 THC content.

Since THCA isn't Delta-9 THC yet (not until you heat it), hemp flower with <0.3% THC but 20%+ THCA is completely legal.

It's not a loophole. It's just... chemistry.

The moment I understood:

"Wait. THCA isn't like HHC (a different cannabinoid). This is just regular cannabis sold in its natural, unheated state?"

Exactly.

Legal to buy. Natural THC when used.

This was what I'd been looking for.

The Test

I ordered THCA flower from a Czech supplier. Same country, different product.

Package arrived discreetly. Lab report included: THCA 22%, Delta-9 THC 0.2%.

It looked like traditional cannabis. Smelled like it too.

Evening test: Rolled a joint. Lit it.

5 minutes later: There it was.

Not similar to what I remembered.

Not an alternative version.

THIS WAS IT.

The exact same experience as traditional cannabis.

The taste. The smell. The effect. The ritual.

Like reconnecting with an old friend.

The Comparison

After trying all three, here's how I'd explain them:

CBD = No psychoactive effects. Great for wellness, not recreation. My friend loves it for anxiety. But if you want a "high," this isn't it.

HHC = Psychoactive cannabinoid with its own unique effect profile. Many people genuinely prefer it to THC – it's not "settling." Different, not worse. Worth trying if you're curious.

THCA = Raw THC. Converts to traditional Delta-9 THC when heated. If you want the classic cannabis experience, this is it.

Think of it like coffee:

  • CBD = Decaf (no caffeine)
  • HHC = Energy drink (works, but tastes different)
  • THCA = Coffee beans (become regular coffee when brewed)

Some people love energy drinks. Others specifically want traditional coffee.

Neither is wrong.

Who Should Choose What?

Choose CBD if: You don't want psychoactive effects at all.

Choose HHC if: You want to try something different, or you've tried it and prefer its unique effects.

Choose THCA if: You want traditional cannabis – the real thing, not an alternative.

Three Months Later

I found my answer: THCA.

My coworker tried my THCA, then switched to HHC because he preferred that effect.

My friend stuck with CBD because she doesn't want a high.

We're all ordering from Czech suppliers. All getting what we need.

Total spent figuring this out: €200+

But now I know exactly what works for me.

And that's the point.

Three legal options. Three different experiences.

CBD taught me what I don't want.

HHC showed me alternatives exist (and some people love them).

THCA gave me what I was actually looking for.

Your answer might be different.

But at least now you know the difference.
